Tonga Festivals

The largest Festival in Tonga is the Heilala Festival from the end of June to beginning of July. This is an excellent time to come to observe local culture with traditional songs, dances and feats held throughout the two week celebrations. Handicrafts displays, parades and the Tonga Beauty pageant are also held during this time.

Tonga Holiday Seasons
The main school holidays are from the first week in December to mid-January. Between this Christmas period flights and boats to some islands can be full as locals return to their homes so it is wise to book ahead. The high season for tourism is May to October, especially in Vava'u as this coincides with the sailing and whale watching seasons.

Sundays in Tonga are observed as a strict day of rest and absolutely everything closes down including taxis, buses and restaurants. A few day tourist day trips are permitted.
