Nukualofa Town has several small restaurants serving mostly Chinese and Italian food. Seaview Restaurant overlooking the ocean just west of town serves excellent seafood dishes including lobster in a colonial style atmosphere. Akikio's Restaurant in the grounds of the Catholic Church serves excellent budget meals for lunch and dinner. On Sunday, most restaurants are closed.
Nukualofa has several fun bars - rowdy on Friday nights but otherwise pretty quiet. All bars close promptly at midnight on Saturday.
The only restaurant out of town is at the Good Samaritan Inn - keep an eye out for their twice weekly traditional feast nights when it seems all Tongans head that way for a great feast and cultural dance show.
On Ha'apai, the only place to eat out is at the popular Fifita Guesthouse in Pangai Town where host Trevor cooks up some excellent dishes. Sandy Beach Resort will take outsiders at their fine restaurant on Foa Island if pre-arranged.
On Vavau, the choice is much better. Neiafu has several excellent restaurants around the harbour and the bars are lively during the sailing season from May to October.
